             A fundamental painting in the transition period is this John the Madman. This painting the largest signed by him to date, keeps its dark tones but we can seee how de colour wants to escape from the dominant blacks. The brushstrokes flow rhithmically giving body to the fields and clouds, the scenery is unreal, deformed by an expressive desire.
            In his periode he also decides to raise the horizons until he practically fills the entire canvas. This was to become his owne hallmark. From this raised view point the hierarchy of the foreground disappears and moves to the back of the painting
