The Peasant
Oli on canvas de 41x33cm

This samall painting is a delight because of its simplicity of materials and pleasant harmony. It shows a man bent over working in the harvest of a field of wheat. The vision is very sharp, so much so that we can not see the horizon. We are led to understand that the man is working in a very steep field, but we can also see that he is totally surrounded by de soil of the field. Two heaps of staw finish the composition and create a triangular equilibrium between them. What stands out the most is the subtle use of  colour he uses a very reduced rang of ochres going from the gold of the wheat to the brown of the soil. The rhythm the brushstrokes give it and the scratches made with a spatula create a smooth and rolling sensation, like wind.
